लक्षद्वीप के अनुसूचित जनजाति के अधिवास अधिकार
  • केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने केंद्र शासित प्रदेश में अनुसूचित जनजाति (एसटी) की आबादी को अधिवास अधिकारों को प्रदान करने हेतु लैकाडिव, मिनिकोय और अमिंदिवि द्वीप समूह भूमि राजस्व और किरायेदारी विनियमन 1965 के संशोधन को मंजूरी दी।
  • लक्षद्वीप द्वीप में ज्यादातर एसटी आबादी शामिल है और उनके पास अधिवास अधिकार नहीं थे।
मुंबई को सिंगल-यूज प्लास्टिक मुक्त बनना
  • 1 मई, 2020 तक मुंबई को सिंगल-यूज प्लास्टिक से मुक्त बनाने का लक्ष्य रखते हुए बृहन्मुंबई महानगर पालिका (BMC) ऐसे प्लास्टिक का इस्तेमाल करने वालों के खिलाफ सख्त कार्रवाई करेगी।
  • आदित्य ठाकरे ने विधान परिषद में घोषणा की थी कि राज्य को 1 मई, 2020 तक सिंगल-यूज प्लास्टिक की वस्तुओं से मुक्त कर दिया जाएगा।
  • बीएमसी ने जून 2018 से 86,000 किलोग्राम प्लास्टिक जब्त किया था और 4.65 करोड़ रुपये जुर्माना वसूल किया था।
डॉ. श्यामा प्रसाद मुखर्जी किसे दिया गया
  • असम के मुख्यमंत्री सर्बानंद सोनोवाल को 28 फरवरी, 2020 को छठे भारत विचार सम्मेलन में राजनीति के लिए डॉ. श्यामा प्रसाद मुखर्जी पुरस्कार 2020 से सम्मानित किया गया।
  • यह पुरस्कार विदेश मंत्री एस जयशंकर और मालदीव के पीपल्स मजलिस के अध्यक्ष मोहम्मद नशीद द्वारा प्रस्तुत किया गया था।
  • यह पुरस्कार एक प्रशस्ति पत्र, एक विशेष रूप से डिजाइन की गई ट्रॉफी और 1 लाख रु का नकद ईनाम है।
शून्य भेदभाव दिवस: 1 मार्च
  • 1 मार्च को, दुनिया भर के लोग मिलकर शून्य भेदभाव दिवस मनाते हैं।
  • UNAIDS के बाद यूएन ने पहली बार 1 मार्च 2014 को शून्य भेदभाव दिवस मनाया, मानव इम्यूनोडिफीसिअन्सी वायरस (एचआईवी) और एक्वायर्ड इम्यून डेफिसिएंसी सिंड्रोम (एड्स) पर संयुक्त राष्ट्र के एक कार्यक्रम ने दिसंबर 2013 को विश्व एड्स दिवस पर अपना शून्य भेदभाव अभियान शुरू किया।
विश्व नागरिक रक्षा दिवस: 1 मार्च
  • विश्व नागरिक रक्षा दिवस हर साल 1 मार्च को मनाया जाता है।
  • विश्व नागरिक रक्षा दिवस वर्ष 2020 का विषय  “बच्चों की सुरक्षा, हमारी जिम्मेदारी” है।
  • 1990 में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय नागरिक सुरक्षा संगठन (ICDO) द्वारा इस दिन को शामिल किया गया था।
  • यह दिन 1972 में एक अंतर-सरकारी संगठन के रूप में ICDO संविधान के बल पर प्रवेश का प्रतीक है और इसके दो मुख्य उद्देश्य हैं।
पंजाब सरकार ने 1.54 लाख करोड़ का बजट पेश किया
  • पंजाब सरकार ने 28 फरवरी 2020 को राज्य विधानसभा में वित्त वर्ष 2020-21 के लिए 1.54 लाख करोड़ रुपये का बजट पेश किया।
  • पंजाब के वित्त मंत्री मनप्रीत सिंह बादल ने भूमिहीन खेत मजदूरों को कर्ज माफी की घोषणा की और कहा कि इसके लिए 520 करोड़ रुपये की राशि अलग से निर्धारित की गई है।
  • बजट में शिक्षा क्षेत्र के लिए 13,092 करोड़ रुपये और स्वास्थ्य क्षेत्र के लिए 4,675 करोड़ रुपये निश्चित किये गए हैं। 
दुर्लभ रोग दिवस: 29 फरवरी, 2020
  • दुर्लभ रोग दिवस प्रत्येक वर्ष फरवरी के अंतिम दिन मनाया जाता है।
  • इस वर्ष 2020 में यह 29 फरवरी, 2020 को मनाया गया।
  • यह दुर्लभ बीमारियों के लिए जागरूकता बढ़ाने और दुर्लभ बीमारियों और उनके परिवारों के व्यक्तियों के लिए उपचार और चिकित्सा प्रतिनिधित्व की पहुंच में सुधार लाने के लिए मनाया जाता है।
  • 2020 के लिए विषय: “रेर इज़ मेनी। रेर इज़ स्ट्रॉंग। रेर इज़ प्राउड”।
खगोलविदों ने सबसे बड़े विस्फोट का पता लगाया
  • नए अध्ययन की रिपोर्ट बिग बैंग के बाद से वैज्ञानिकों ने ब्रह्मांड में देखे गए सबसे बड़े विस्फोट की खोज की है।
  • विस्फोट आकाशगंगा के केंद्र में हुआ जो पृथ्वी से लगभग 390 मिलियन प्रकाश वर्ष दूर है।
  • विस्फोट बहुत धीरे-धीरे हुआ, यह करोड़ों वर्षों में हुआ है।
  • इसने पिछले रिकॉर्ड की तुलना में पांच गुना अधिक ऊर्जा भी जारी की है।
महिला वैज्ञानिकों के नाम पर 11 कुर्सियां
  • देश भर के संस्थानों में प्रसिद्ध मानवविज्ञानी इरावती कर्वे सहित महिला वैज्ञानिकों के नाम पर ग्यारह कुर्सियाँ स्थापित की जाएंगी।
  • यह विज्ञान के क्षेत्र में उनके योगदान का सम्मान करने के लिए किया जाएगा।
  • इसकी घोषणा महिला और बाल विकास मंत्री स्मृति ईरानी ने राष्ट्रीय विज्ञान दिवस के अवसर पर की।
सेबी के प्रमुख अजय त्यागी को 6 महीने का विस्तार मिला
  • सेबी के अध्यक्ष अजय त्यागी को 28 फरवरी 2020 को छह महीने का विस्तार दिया गया था।
  • हिमाचल प्रदेश कैडर के भारतीय प्रशासनिक सेवा (IAS) अधिकारी, त्यागी का तीन साल का कार्यकाल 29 फरवरी 2020 को समाप्त होना था।
  • अब अपने कार्यकाल के विस्तार के साथ, त्यागी अपने विकास के एजेंडे के साथ-साथ बाजार के जोड़तोड़ के बाद भी अपने मिशन को जारी रख पाएंगे।
राजकोषीय घाटा 128.5% तक पहुंच गया
  • भारत का राजकोषीय घाटा जनवरी-अंत (2020) में पूरे साल के बजट लक्ष्य का 128.5 प्रतिशत पहुंच गया।
  • 2018-19 के दौरान इसी अवधि में घाटा उस वर्ष के संशोधित बजट अनुमान (आरई) का 121.5% था।
  • वास्तविक रूप से, व्यय और राजस्व के बीच राजकोषीय घाटा या अंतर 9,85,472 करोड़ रुपये था।
उन्नीसवें विश्व उत्पादकता कांग्रेस आयोजित की जाएगी
  • विश्व उत्पादकता कांग्रेस, उत्पादकता विकास के लिए दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा सम्मेलन, 45 वर्षों के अंतराल के बाद भारत में वापस आ गया है।
  • विश्व उत्पादकता कांग्रेस (डब्ल्यूपीसी) का उन्नीसवां संस्करण 6-8 मई 2020 को बेंगलुरु में आयोजित किया जाएगा।
  • उन्नीसवें विश्व उत्पादकता कांग्रेस का विषय “उद्योग 4.0 – नवाचार और उत्पादकता” है जो चौथी औद्योगिक क्रांति का प्रतिनिधित्व करता है।
आर आर पाटिल के नाम पर स्मार्ट ग्राम योजना
  • महाराष्ट्र सरकार की “स्मार्ट ग्राम योजना” का नाम पूर्व उप मुख्यमंत्री दिवंगत आर आर पाटिल के नाम पर रखा जाएगा।
  • यह योजना ग्रामीण महाराष्ट्र को विकास की पहल के माध्यम से बदलना चाहती है।
  • स्वच्छता, स्वास्थ्य, शिक्षा, पर्यावरण, इन्फोटेक और नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा स्रोतों सहित कई क्षेत्रों में अच्छा प्रदर्शन करने वाले गाँव को राज्य सरकार द्वारा पुरस्कृत किया जाएगा।
विश्व एनजीओ दिवस: 27 फरवरी
  • प्रत्येक वर्ष 27 फरवरी को पूरे विश्व में एनजीओ दिवस मनाया जाता है।
  • इस दिन का मुख्य उद्देश्य गैर-सरकारी संगठन (एनजीओ) की गतिविधियों और समाज में उनके योगदान के बारे में जागरूकता बढ़ाना है।
  • इस दिन की स्थापना 27 फरवरी 2009 को समाजसेवी माकविस लियर्स स्काडमैन द्वारा की गई थी।
  • और, इसे 12 सदस्य देशों द्वारा 17 अप्रैल 2010 को घोषित किया गया था।
इतिहासकार एस सेटर का निधन
  • जाने-माने इतिहासकार प्रोफेसर शदाक्षरी सेटर (एस सेटर) का फरवरी 2020 में निधन हो गया।
  • उन्होंने भारतीय पुरातत्व, कला इतिहास, धर्मों के इतिहास, दर्शन और शास्त्रीय साहित्य के क्षेत्र में अनुसंधान किये थें।
  • उन्होंने कन्नड़ और अंग्रेजी में 25 से अधिक पुस्तकें भी लिखीं।
  • उन्हें उनके काम के लिए कई पुरस्कारों से सम्मानित किया गया, जिन्होंने भारतीय इतिहास को फिर से स्थापित करने में मदद की।
एक खगोलशास्त्री ने 17 नए ग्रहों की खोज की
  • ब्रिटिश कोलंबिया विश्वविद्यालय के खगोलविद छात्र मिशेल कुनिमोटो ने 17 नए ग्रहों की खोज की है, जिनमें संभावित रूप से रहने योग्य, पृथ्वी के आकार की दुनिया शामिल है।
  • द एस्ट्रोनॉमिकल जर्नल में प्रकाशित नए निष्कर्षों में एक विशेष रूप से दुर्लभ ग्रह शामिल है।
  • आधिकारिक तौर पर KIC-7340288 b नाम दिया गया, कुनिमोटो द्वारा खोजा गया ग्रह पृथ्वी के आकार का सिर्फ 1 ½ गुना है – इतना छोटा कि जिसे चट्टानी माना जाता है।

यार्ड 45006 VAJRA चेन्नई में लॉन्च किया गया
  • छठे अपतटीय गश्ती पोत ‘यार्ड 45006 VAJRA’ को औपचारिक रूप से चेन्नई में 27 फरवरी 2020 को लॉन्च किया गया था।
  • केंद्र के ‘मेक इन इंडिया’ अभियान के तहत लार्सन एंड टुब्रो द्वारा निर्मित पोत का इस्तेमाल दिन और रात के समय के लिए किया जाएगा।
  • यह जहाज 98 मीटर लंबा और 15 मीटर चौड़ा है, जिसमें 2,100 टन का सकल टन भार है।
  • यह दो डीजल चालित इंजन से लैस है।
ONGC & HPCL का पेट्रोनेट एमएचबी हिस्सेदारी अधिग्रहण
  • तेल और प्राकृतिक गैस कॉर्पोरेशन (ONGC) और उसकी सहायक कंपनी हिंदुस्तान पेट्रोलियम कॉर्पोरेशन लिमिटेड (HPCL) ने पेट्रोनेट एमएचबी लिमिटेड में लगभग 371 करोड़ रुपये में ऋणदाताओं को खरीदा है।
  • अधिग्रहण से तालमेल, बेहतर लागत अर्थशास्त्र और राजस्व महत्तम मूल्यांकन के संभावित अवसर खुलेंगे।
  • अधिग्रहण 31 मार्च, 2020 तक पूरा होने की उम्मीद है।
क्षमता निर्माण का कार्यक्रम
  • केंद्रीय आदिवासी मामलों के मंत्री अर्जुन मुंडा ने 27 फरवरी 2020 को भुवनेश्वर में “स्थानीय स्व सरकारों में अनुसूचित जनजाति के प्रतिनिधियों की क्षमता निर्माण के लिए कार्यक्रम” का शुभारंभ किया।
  • उन्होंने “1000 स्प्रिंग इनिशिएटिव्स” और इस अवसर पर स्प्रिंग्स के हाइड्रोलॉजिकल और रासायनिक गुणों के साथ जीआईएस-आधारित स्प्रिंग एटलस पर एक ऑनलाइन पोर्टल भी लॉन्च किया।

Occupancy rights to STs of Lakshadweep
  • The union cabinet approved amendment of the Laccadive, Minicoy and Amindivi Islands Land Revenue and Tenancy Regulation, 1965 to confer occupancy rights to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) population in the union territory.
  • The Lakshadweep island mostly comprises ST population and they did not have occupancy rights.
Mumbai to become single-use plastic-free
  • Aiming to make Mumbai free of single-use plastic by May 1, 2020, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will take strict action against those using such plastic.
  • Aaditya Thackeray had announced in the Legislative Council that the state will be made free of single-use plastic items by May 1, 2020.
  • The BMC had seized 86,000 kg plastic and recovered Rs 4.65 crore in fines since June 2018.
Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee Award presented
  • Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was presented with the Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee award 2020 for Politics at the 6th India Ideas Conclave on Feb 28, 2020.
  • The award was presented by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Speaker of People’s Majlis of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed.
  • The award carries a citation, a specially designed trophy and a cheque of Rs. 1 lakh.
Zero Discrimination Day: 1 March
  • On 1 March, people around the world join together to celebrate Zero Discrimination Day.
  • The UN first celebrated Zero Discrimination Day on March 1, 2014, after UNAIDS, a UN program on human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), launched its Zero Discrimination Campaign on World AIDS Day in December 2013.
World Civil Defense Day: 1 March
  • World Civil Defense Day is celebrated on 1 March every year.
  • The theme for the year 2020 is World Civil Defense Day is “Protection of children, our responsibility”.
  • The day was incorporated by the International Civil Protection Organization (ICDO) in 1990.
  • This day marks the entry into force of the ICDO Constitution as an inter-governmental organization in 1972 and has two main objectives.
Punjab govt presented Rs 1.54 lakh cr budget
  • The Punjab govt on 28 Feb 2020 presented a Rs 1.54 lakh crore budget for the financial year 2020-21 in the state assembly.
  • Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal announced debt waiver to landless farm labourers and added that a sum of Rs 520 cr has been set aside for the same.
  • The budget also earmarked Rs 13,092 crore for the education sector and Rs 4,675 crore for the health sector.
Rare Diseases Day: February 29, 2020
  • Rare Disease Day is observed every year on the last day of February.
  • This year in 2020 it fell on February 29, 2020.
  • It is observed to raise awareness for rare diseases and improve access to treatment and medical representation for individuals with rare diseases and their families.
  • The theme for 2020: “Rare is Many. Rare is Strong. Rare is Proud”.
Astronomers detect biggest explosion
  • Scientists have discovered the biggest explosion seen in the universe since the Big Bang, a new study reports.
  • The explosion took place at the center of a galaxy that’s about 390 million light years from Earth.
  • The explosion happened very slowly, taking place over hundreds of millions of years.
  • It also released five times more energy than the previous record holder.
11 Chairs in the names of women scientists
  • Eleven chairs in the names of women scientists, including renowned anthropologist Iravati Karve, will be established at institutes across the country.
  • This would be done to honour their contribution in the field of science.
  • This was announced by Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani on the occasion of the National Science Day.
SEBI chief Ajay Tyagi got 6-month extension
  • SEBI chairman Ajay Tyagi was given a six-month extension on 28 Feb 2020.
  • Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre, Tyagi’s three-year tenure was to end on 29 Feb 2020.
  • With his tenure now extended, Tyagi will be able to continue with his development agenda, as well as his mission to go after market manipulators.
Fiscal deficit touched 128.5%
  • India’s fiscal deficit touched 128.5 per cent of the whole year budget target at January-end (2020).
  • The deficit during the same period during 2018-19 was 121.5% of that year’s Revised Budget Estimate (RE).
  • In actual terms, the fiscal deficit or gap between the expenditure and revenue stood at Rs 9,85,472 crore. 
19th World Productivity Congress to be held
  • World Productivity Congress, the world’s largest convention for productivity development, is back in India after a gap of 45 years.
  • The 19th edition of World Productivity Congress (WPC) will be held on May 6-8 2020 in Bengaluru.
  • The theme of 19th World Productivity Congress is “Industry 4.0 – Innovation and Productivity” which represents the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Smart gram yojana to be named after R R Patil
  • The Maharashtra government’s “smart gram yojana” will be named after former Deputy Chief Minister the late R R Patil.
  • The scheme seeks to transform rural Maharashtra through development initiatives.
  • Villages performing well in a range of areas, including cleanliness, health, education, environment, use of infotech and renewable energy sources, rewarded by the state government.
World NGO Day: 27 February
  • Every year on 27th February World NGO Day is observed throughout the globe.
  • The main objective of this day is to raise awareness about the Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) activities and her contribution to Society.
  • This day was established by the philanthropist Mārcis Liors Skadmanis on 27th February 2009.
  • And, it was declared by the 12 member countries on 17th April 2010.
Historian S Settar passed away
  • Renowned historian Prof Shadakshari Settar (S Settar) passed away in February 2020.
  • He had conducted research in the fields of Indian archaeology, art history, history of religions, philosophy and classical literature.
  • He also penned more than 25 books in Kannada and English.
  • He was honoured with a number of awards for his work that helped to reinvent Indian history.
An Astronomer discovered 17 new planets
  • University of British Columbia astronomy student Michelle Kunimoto has discovered 17 new planets, including a potentially habitable, Earth-sized world.
  • The new findings, published in The Astronomical Journal, include one such particularly rare planet.
  • Officially named KIC-7340288 b, the planet discovered by Kunimoto is just 1 ½ times the size of Earth – small enough to be considered rocky.
Animal that can survive without oxygen
  • A tiny parasite called Henneguya salminicola is the first known multicellular animal that can survive without oxygen.
  • This was mentioned in a study published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences by researchers at Tel Aviv University.
  • This parasite, in fact, couldn’t breathe oxygen even if it wanted to — it gave up the process as it evolved.
Yard 45006 VAJRA launched in Chennai
  • The sixth offshore patrol vessel ‘Yard 45006 VAJRA’ was formally launched on 27 Feb 2020 in Chennai.
  • The vessel, built by Larsen and Toubro under the Centre’s ‘Make in India’ campaign, would be used for day and night patrolling.
  • The vessel is 98 metres long and 15 metres wide with a gross tonnage of 2,100 tonnes.
  • It is equipped with two diesel driven engines.
ONGC & HPCL acquired stake in Petronet MHB
  • Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) and its subsidiary Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) have bought out lenders in Petronet MHB Ltd, for about Rs 371 crore.
  • The acquisition will open up possible opportunities for synergy, better cost economics and revenue maximisation.
  • The acquisition is expected to be completed by March 31, 2020.
Programme for Capacity Building
  • Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda launched the “Programme for Capacity Building of Scheduled Tribe Representatives in Local Self Governments” in Bhubaneswar on 27 Feb 2020. 
  • He also launched “1000 Spring Initiatives” and an online portal on GIS-based Spring Atlas with hydrological and chemical properties of the Springs on the occasion.
